Good advice, recent culinary adventures, a delicious book
Good advice is worth more than gold. I still remember a man at work telling me ahead of my wedding to enjoy every moment of the day, because it’d all go by so quickly. He was so right, and I was glad that I had remembered his words throughout the day and paused a few times to do exactly this.
A few months ago, I received one of my favourite pieces of advice for this season of raising a young family:
Life has phases. You're in the cluttered midst of parenting. So, let the things go that don't make you a better parent, person and wife. And it's OK to do that.
- (Emphasis mine)
I’ve thought of Ruth’s words often, on good days and bad days and most recently, last night. Last night was a night of heart-and-mind battles. And just before I drifted off to Neverland I remembered her advice and knew what my answer to a certain question that had cropped up earlier in the day had to be.
All things are lawful [that is, morally legitimate, permissible], but not all things are beneficial or advantageous. All things are lawful, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life].
- 1 Corinthians 10:23 Amplified Bible
Are you struggling with making a decision and drawing up a good ol’ pros and cons list? May I recommend using Wisdom and Truth as a sounding board.
Sometimes in a dim and dark place we may feel like we have little faith to carry us through, but if we put one foot in front of the other in search of being a better person for yourself and for the people whose lives you influence the most, then ultimately we can’t go wrong.
Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.
- 1 Corinthians 13:13 New Living Translation
Recent culinary adventures
A beautiful meal with a beautiful friend in a place designed for nourishment on every level. Everything was delicious, but my favourite was “Arancini, mussels, chilli, oregano.” Heaven! Ada Restaurant
When my bon vivant friend and ex-flattie Ian sent me a recipe I knew it would be good! Cooked it for one of our only true ‘date nights’ at home and both Jarred and I were suitably impressed—and happy. A perfect lamb curry, precise, thoughtful and delicious.
Seared Yellowfin tuna loin
